The Meeting of Traditional Cultures from the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park Region

The Meeting of Traditional Cultures from the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park Region

In 2001, the Casa de Cultura Cavaleiro de Jorge culture house held its First Meeting of Traditional Cultures of Chapada dos Veadeiros, in order to gather traditional cultural expressions from the states of the Federal District, Goiás, Tocantins, Minas Gerais and other states of Brazil, prioritizing groups from the Chapada: the Catira and Curraleira, the revelers of St. John of the Alliance; the Sussa, the Kalungas of Vão do Moleque and Vão de Almas; the Lundu and Batuque, the Caçada da Rainha from Colinas do Sul; and the Congo, from the Niquelândia community. Nationally known artists such as the musicians Nana Vasconcelos and Hermeto Pascoal, were also part of the program.

During the month of July, every fifteen days, the Meeting of Cultures (Encontro de Culturas) presents spectacles that combine music, dance and faith, which reflect the essence of indigenous peoples, teachers, revelers, catireiros, viola players, artists and representatives of different traditions of the Brazilian culture, reflecting the richness of  the intangible cultural heritage produced in the interior of Brazil. Thus, over the years, it has become a reference in the debate on the country's popular culture, bringing together in each edition masters of traditional culture, representatives of government and the community in general.
